Terms and Conditions 

Here at Universal Taxis Ltd also, known as Choice Cars, we value all our customers. Our priority is to ensure that your passenger journey with us is safe and the best value for money.

Whilst we will always exercise all due care and consideration to carry out client and or/ passenger instruction we will not be liable for any incidence or loss due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control.


Quotes  

All quotes given are approximate according to an estimate of miles and time incurred by the driver and time of day and type of vehicle required to do a specific journey.


Surcharges 

We reserve the right to apply a surcharge to:
– Airport and station pick-ups
– Out-of-area to out-of-area journeys.
– Christmas, New Year, and other Bank Holiday journeys
– Additional stops on the route
– Journeys out of standard business hours. Which falls between 22:00 hrs – 06:00 hrs.


Charges 

We will calculate fares based on mileage incurred, time, car parking and waiting time. 

The charge rate will vary according to the type of vehicle/service required for the journey.
We operate fixed-rate airports and out-of-town journeys.

Most journeys are quoted as travelling via the shortest route. If the route varies from this, e.g., by request from the customer to use a motorway route or the driver has to avoid a traffic-related problem, Choice Cars reserves the right to charge the client for any extra mileage and time.

Local journeys are metered, and fares are governed by Decorum Borough Council. 




Right to Refusal

Choice Cars reserves the right to refuse to carry a passenger or object that the driver deems to be likely to cause him or his vehicle harm or damage in whatsoever form. The decision by the driver will be final. Additional charges will be requested if there is damage to the vehicle. For example, the soiling of the interior. 


Cancellations

Any pickups outside a 10-mile radius of Hemel Hempstead require 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. (Four hours’ notice with a radius of Hemel before the journey is due) or full payment will be required.

Account work, if the driver is on route to pick up a full charge will be applied.


Airport pick up 

Charges – Airport pick-up charges include thirty minutes waiting time calculated from the time the plane has landed and car parking charges for the first thirty minutes.

Choice Cars will aim to minimise parking charges by arranging a predetermined pick-up time and by monitoring the flight tracker associated with your flight. Additional car parking and waiting time charges are variable, we cannot build them into our pricing structure and therefore, they will be added to the cost at the end of the journey. Please note all airports now make a drop-off charge, to anyone dropping off passengers at the airport. This charge will be passed on to the customer at the rate the airport levies this charge. 


Waiting time

Where a driver must wait beyond the appointed time to collect a passenger, whether it be the fault of the passenger or client or arises from circumstances beyond their control, the Client will be liable to pay waiting time.


Congestion Charge

Transport for London (TFL) has leveed a congestion charge to all private hire vehicles. The customer is liable for this charge which will be added to the journey cost. Sometimes this will be done at the end of the journey.



Ultra-low emission Charge (ULEZ)

Choice Cars is working towards a fleet of hybrid vehicles in line with environmental regulations. However, as some of our fleet includes self–employed drivers, we will occasionally have to make the ULEZ charge to the customer. This will be added to the cost of the journey at the end of the journey. The customer will be informed at the time of the booking.


Payment

The Account Client undertakes to pay invoices within the payment terms on the account application.  


Transport of goods 

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure adequate insurance cover is in place for goods in transit.


Car Seats 

Taxi companies are not required by law to provide car seats in taxis, private hire vehicles and minicabs. Choice Cars customers are allowed to use their car seats.


Wheelchair accessible vehicles

Wheelchair-accessible vehicles require 24-hour notification.

All queries are to be raised within 7 days of our services.
